Course Objectives: | This course aims at introducing students with the theoretical / conceptual background and the technical information necessary in the design and implementation process to make viable those buildings or groups of buildings that lost their intended use without completing the physical life or to adapt them to contemporary conditions for the same function not to lose them from collective memory for the sake of sustainability. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1.Recognize the importance of existing architectural fabric from the point of environmental, economic and collective memory. 2.Defends the retention of the existing buildings if they are physically viable although functionaly out of use. 3.Analyse the physical/structural conditions of the existing building. 4.Analsing the accepted world-known case studies, appraise the different design approaches and the reasons behind their differences. 5.Designs spatial organizations for the new uses within the old architectural settings. 6.Demonstrates respect for the ethical and legal aspects of the adaptive reuse processes both in local and global scale. |
