Course Coordinator : | Dr. Öğr. Üyesi BELİNDA TORUS |
Course Objectives: | Computer-aided design (CAAD) technology has radically changed the practice of architecture, and yet it has the potential to change it even more radically. This course aims a comprehensive study of the principles, methods, practices and the potentials of emerging computational techniques that will affect the future of design and architecture. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; The students who successfully complete this course: 1- understand the new technologies that are effecting the following processes of design and architecture; design, drafting, visualization and manufacturing 2- gain the understanding of parametric and algorithmic approaches in design, learns the terminology and be able to discuss the paradigm shift in design related with these new approaches 3- understand and discuss utopias and dystopias related with the technologies 4- create drafts with algorithmic thinking and able to make future projections of design related with the advanced hardware and software |
The course comprises of various topics that enhances the theoretical knowledge related with the developing technologies and new design thinking. Design theories in digital age, shift in design thinking, design and production continuum, production technologies, design cognition, algorithmic and parametric design, performance-based design, fabrication technologies, modeling and simulation, digital design tools and devices, design and decision support systems, shape and form studies, human-computer interaction, collaborative design, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality are some of the topics that will be mentioned and discussed throughout the semester. The effects of possible developments in electronic media and information technologies on the physical world and future manifestos, utopias / dystopias are also to be mentioned and discussed during the class. |
