Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to teach the chemical, physical, mechanical and biological properties of materials used in dentistry,
The classification of impression and restoration materials used in prosthetic dental treatment, their clinical and laboratory use,
The structures and manipulation properties of the base materials and amalgam filling materials used in restorative dental treatments,
Root canal instruments, irrigation solutions, endodontic medicaments and pastes used in endodontic dental treatments,
The biocompatibility of dental materials and measuring biocompatibility,
Testing of dental materials.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Upon succesfull completion of this course students will be able to;

1. Questions the relation between basic concepts of materials science and dentistry.
2. Predicts the behavior of dental materials under various conditions.
3. Compares and categorizes the dental materials according to usage, physical and chemical characteristics.
4. Questions the interaction of the materials used in prosthetic dental treatment according to their general properties and usage areas.
5. Explains the classification, application areas, physical, chemical, and biological properties of materials used in restorative dental treatments.
6. Defines the instruments and materials used in endodontic treatments.
7. Understands the importance of the dental materials biocompatibility, learns how to measure biocompatibility, and distinguish the differences between the test methods,
8. Describe individual tests in detail and explain why they are performed.
