Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to teach; structural features of the tooth, cavity preparation techniques, different types of cavity preparations, rotary instruments used in cavity preparations, burs and hand instruments used in amalgam restoration, ergonomic working principles, detection and removal of caries, cavity disinfectants, treatments for the preservation of pulp vitality, base materials for pulp protection, amalgam material, creating correct contact and contour during amalgam restoration, basic and current matrix-wedge applications, finishing and polishing processes, complex amalgam restorations, and amalgam biocompatibility.

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:
1. To define enamel, dentin, cementum structure and pulp dentin complex,
2. To define Black cavity principles and learn Class I, II, V, VI cavity preparations,
3. To learn the rotary tools and burs used in cavity preparations, hand instruments used in amalgam restorations,
4. To learn ergonomic working principles,
5. To learn to detect and removing caries in the cavity, getting to know cavity disinfectants,
6. To learn pulp protective materials and treatments,
7. To learn amalgam material and amalgam restorations,
8. To learn how to create contact and contours, use of matrix and wedge while performing amalgam restorations,
9. To learn amalgam finishing and polishing procedures,
10.To learn and define complex amalgam restorations,
11. To learn amalgam biocompatibility.
