Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide the students with information about the social structure, values and health effects of the individual and society in nursing practice.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
"1 - Define the basic concepts of sociology and sociology of health
2 - Evaluate the concepts of health and disease with sociological dimension
3 - Evaluate the social factors affecting health and disease
4 - Understands the changes in the social life of the individual with his / her illness and role.
6 - Understand the triangle of patient, nurse and physician relationship, models and social roles related to the interactions of these health professionals
7 - Evaluate health policies, health institutions, functions and organizational structure
8 - Evaluates the perception of health and illness in society and folk beliefs in disease
9 - Understand the relationship between culture and health / disease and intercultural nursing care"

Course Content

In this course, the definition of sociology, its subject, its relationship with other sciences, sociology, culture and society, people and society, social stratification, disease as a social system and health care, modern and traditional medicine, the health system in Turkey, diseases and public institutions on the social-cultural aspect, socio-cultural factors affecting nutrition in terms of health and disease, health-disease and social change.

3) Definition of sociology of health and its areas of interest, factors affecting the development of health sociology
4) Basic concepts and theories of health sociology

6) Socio-cultural structure variables affecting health, social determinants of health and inequalities
7) Sociological transition of the patient to the patient process, patient status, responsibilities and role
8) Midterm Exam
9) Responsibilities and role of doctor and nurse in health care
10) Doctor-patient interaction and nurse-patient interaction
11) Health institutions and functions in terms of social system, traditional and modern medicine
12) The appearance and roles of nursing profession
13) Power and power of nursing profession in social system
14) Culture-health interaction and intercultural nursing
