Course Objectives: This course aims to provide an introduction to biostatistical concepts and explain basic principles in research methods at the undergraduate level for oral healthcare. The course starts with descriptive measures and probability concepts. It represents an introduction to this field with an overview of basic uses of descriptive and inferential statistical methods. It encompasses the understanding of presentation, analysis, interpretation of collected data and applying in dental research methods.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
At the end of the course, the students will be able to:

1.Identify basic uses of biostatistical methods.
2.Define and distinguish between population parameters and sample statistics.
3.Compute a population mean, population variance, and population standard deviation.
4.Explain what is meant by statistical inference.
5.Define the mean, median, mode, range, variance and standard deviation. according to their characteristics and indications.
6.Define representative and appropriate sample from a certain population using the appropriate sampling technique.
7.Apply the steps of hypothesis testing.
8.Outline different methods of presentations, analysis and interpretation of collected data.
9.Understand regression analysis and correlation of variables.
10.Draw scientific conclusions from data.
