Course Objectives: Successful efforts in digitization have to keep both technological and managerial perspectives in mind. The technological perspectives define the information and communication infrastructure of the firm and enable new ways to digitize business processes. The managerial perspective facilitates new coordination and communication within and across entities, enabling new organizational forms, change the information environment underlying the business, permit new incentive structures, and change value creation.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Students will gain the following:
• understanding the transformations that are caused by highly complex, advanced technologies like the IoT, smart industry (also known as Industry 4.0), etc.
• requirements for managers and engineers
• translation of technological shifts into business advantages and formulating and executing market strategies
• formulation of a technology-based strategy as well as operationalizing the strategy in the marketplace (market and application segmentation, promising ways to get started, setting-up early pilots, role of communications, interplay between technical work in the laboratories and activities in the marketplace)
• building and managing a virtual organization and the role of leadership and management

Course Content

This course will focus on the major issues that businesses must deal with to successfully transform its technical and market strategies, including the organizational and cultural aspects that often cause such transformations to fail.
