Course Objectives: This course aims to introduce discursive approaches to text and talk in relation to English language teaching. The course aims to improve the pre-service teachers? awareness and knowledge of discourse analytic and conversation analytic research on L2 classroom discourse, which also informs classroom interactional practices.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
The students will; 1. understand the various principles and techniques oto analyze discourse with special reference to Conversation Analysis in relation to foreign language classroom discourse. 2.be able to transcribe audio and video recordings of language classroom interaction. 3.grasp the principles of face-to-face communication. 4.be able to investigate teaching and learning practices in language classrooms from a micro-analytic perspective.
5. be able to better harness teacher talk to facilitate learning in language classrooms.

Course Content

English language teacher candidates will be able to analyze naturally occurring language use with reference to language skills and teaching practices in various discourse types and understand the importance of discourse for teaching languages. They can also explain the relationship between analysis of discourse and language teaching.
