Course Coordinator : | Assoc. Prof. SEDA SARAÇ |
Course Objectives: | The aim of the course to present information to preservice preschool teachers about: a. Behaviors and related theories b. Identifying and defining target behaviors c. Behavioral observation and assessment d. Increasing and supporting appropriate behaviors (organizing environment, prompts-cues and reinforcements) e. Dealing with inappropriate behaviors (reasons and functions of inappropriate behaviors, preventive methods, methods for removing inappropriate behaviors |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1. Knows the theories explaining the behaviors. 2. Defines the concepts of behavior management in early childhood. 3. Describes the behaviors in an observable and measurable way and writes behavioral goals. 4. Knows how to identify target behavior. Knows and uses behavioral assessment- observation techniques. 6. Knows the methods of teaching and supporting positive behaviors (prompts-cues, reinforcements, organizing environment, etc.). Identifies the causes and functions of negative behaviors. Knows and defines negative behavior reduction methods. Knows how to decrease negative behaviors. 7. Develops skills related to behavior management in early childhood 8. Explains behavior management methods to teachers and parents in early childhood. Knows the importance of parent-teacher interaction in behavior management. |
1. Theories related behaviors behaviors (theories of development, biological theories, behavioral theories, and cognitive theories). 2. Concepts of behavior management in early childhood 3. Defining behaviors and writing behavioral goals 4. Identifying and evaluating target behaviors (observation techniques) 5. Teaching and supporting positive behaviors (organizing physical environment, prompts-cues, reinforcements, shaping and chaining) 6. Identify the causes and functions of negative behaviors. 7. Methods for decreasing negative behaviors (differential reinforcement, extinction, response cost, time-out, excessive overcorrection) 8. Collaborate with parents on behavior management |
