Course Objectives: Gamification in education first begins as a lecture that describes, discusses, and reflects on relevant concepts and theories in general terms. Then, by trying to establish the connection between game elements, mechanics, components and dynamics and game and gamification, it tries to give the psychological and theoretical background that constitutes the concept. In this course, both physical and digital examples of how games and gamification can be used in education are shown while students engage in practical activities towards gamification design. Students will have the opportunity to learn and apply the concept of gamification and the elements surrounding it through various activities.
Therefore, in this course we will analyze in depth the use of games and game elements in education and training.

Course Content

Introduction to the game; definitions and concepts related to play, educational play and gamification; game history, psychology and behavior theorems; player types; types of awards; types of entertainment; individual and group games; play elements; game mechanics; game flow and motivation types; behavior cycles and models; gamification models (Werbach-Octalysis); gamification measurements; sample game applications; gamification designs with gamification cards on an educational topic.
