Course Objectives: | Focuses on the integration of theory and practice for advanced counseling students. Critical analysis of several major theories of counseling. The course will provide a contextualized background for counseling work, understanding of theoretical material, and the ability to conceptualize and apply theory into practice. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1) Identify the core content of specified major theoretical approaches in counseling/therapy 2) Recognize limitations and strengths of each of the theoretical orientations discussed 3) Describe experiential interaction with some aspects of each approach 4) Describe personal qualities that support or hinder the therapeutic relationship 5) Understand the historical connections and themes which shape modern psychotherapy 6) Explain an overview of the counseling process from a cognitive behavioral perspective 7) Identify bhaviours which are consistent ethical standarts. 8) Identify and explain main theory groups (psychoanalitic, humanistic, behaviouristic, cognitive, sysytemic etc) 9) Distinguish theories concepts and interventions 10) Identfy which intervention would be better for clinets |
