Course Objectives:
To teach early childhood literacy skills and child literature

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. Students learn what is the differences between early literacy and reading-writing skills
2. Students become aware of emergent literacy skills in Turkish language
3. Students learn developmental changes in children?s literacy skills
4. Students learn to assessment of literacy skills of children
5. Students learn the differences between literacy skills of typically developing children and children with special educational needs
6. Students learn to support literacy skills of children from birth to seven years

Course Content

Description of basic concepts of literacy and child literature, predictive skills of reading and writing skills, criteria for choosing age appropriate books, importance of dialogic reading, literacy development from birth to seven years of childhood
