Course Objectives: Innovative construction materials and technologies. Innovative concretes including high strength, high performance, fiber-reinforced, light weight; local durability problems and various methods of protection; concept of durable design and code specifications. Emphasis will be placed on state of the art developments in the innovative constructions and technologies.


Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
This course is intended to contribute to the following program outcomes.

1. Appreciate the effects of constituents such as aggregates, cements, admixtures, fibers, etc on the properties of concrete

2. To design and specify appropriate concrete for different applications

3. Evaluate technical journal articles in the field of concrete materials and apply this knowledge to further sustainability of structures engineered from cement-based materials

4. Demonstrate improved technical communication skills, both written and oral

Course Content

Properties of new generation and innovative concrete constituents; types of cements and their composition; cement hydration; microstructure of hydrated cement paste and its influence on strength, alternative new generation cement matrices; concrete durability and sustainability; sustainability in new generation concrete applications; self-compacting concrete technology; self-healing concrete technology and innovative material solutions.
