Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to examine theory and practice in the domain of pre- and in-service teacher education through examples from different parts of the world and analyze these in relation language teacher education in Turkey.
This is a doctoral level course in which students are expected to do extensive reading and library research and be prepared to contribute relevant information as it pertains to class discussions. Note that it is not possible to cover all the issues in teacher education within one semester; thus, topics thought to be most relevant to our context and students’ needs were given priority in preparing the syllabus.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
*gain insight on the benefits of language teacher education programs
*have a detailed plan of the procedures of designing their own language teacher education programs
*conduct a research in language teacher education
*understand issues, problems and innovative practices in teacher education

Course Content

Some issues of concern are: Teacher knowledge, teacher identity, teacher research, collaborative teacher research, nonnative teacher movement.
