Course Objectives: The aim of the course is to examine the social and emotional development of preschool children in detail.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
By the end of the course, you will be able to;
1. Describe social and emotional development through preschool period, citing relevant theory and research.
2. Discuss the role of genetic and hereditary factors in the social and emotional development.
3. Describe socio-cultural influences on development from the macro to the micro systems. Students will be able to apply the teaching methods during practical work at nursery institutions.

Course Content

This is a broad based introductory lecture course which surveys young children’s social and emotional development from a multidisciplinary scientific perspective. Both theoretical and practical aspects of social and emotional development are presented and examined within a multicultural context. Emphasis is given to socio-cultural and psychological influences on the development.
