Course Objectives: • Demonstrate their knowledge of policy initiatives in the field of parental engagement
• Use core themes and findings from the research literature to identify strengths and limitations in a range of reported parental involvement interventions.
• Develop their understanding of involving parents from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds, and how this necessitated the adoption of wide-ranging varied approaches.
• Evaluate associations between parental involvement and pupil learning and adjustment.
• Apply their skills of critical analysis to interrogate and enhance professional practice in the field of parental involvement

Course Content

This course will provide a comprehensive look at parent-school partnership. It will investigate enduring issues in the field of parental engagement in early childhood education. A range of policy initiatives relating to parental involvement will be examined, and an underlying theme will explore how schools can strengthen their relationships with parents so that productive collaboration is achieved.
