Course Objectives: • Have encountered a wide variety of primary documents, as well as scholarship and popular writing about childhood.
• Practice asking questions of shared class documents.
• student learn how to ask questions about a primary source, to use library databases for historical research, and to write for an online audience.
• Think historically about their own cultural experience, critically re-encountering the culture of their own youth.

Course Content

This course will look at the development of popular culture associated with children in Turkey and the Western Cultures. Using cultural objects made for and by children and youth, we will ask larger questions about the relationships between children and adults, while addressing topics including media, consumption, citizenship, class, and gender.
