Course Objectives: This course aims that the student shall know cancer presence mechanism, etiology, frequency in Turkey and in the world, protection and early diagnosis methods, treatment methods, physical symptoms seen as a reaction to treatment, the problem that cancer patient and patient s family experience and shall plan nursing interventions.

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1 Knows historical development, role, responsibilities standard and working areas of oncology nursing
2 Explains cancer biology and affecting factors
3 Explains cancer protection and early diagnosis methods
4 Explains methods used in cancer treatment
5 Explains physiopathology of symptoms that can be seen in cancer patient
6 Nursing care for symptoms seen in cancer patient by using evidence-based knowledge

Course Content

It includes knowledge and practices about chemotherapy, radiotherapy, morrow bone transplantation in various types of cancers, oncological emergencies, and nurses’ roles in in symptom management, implementation of supportive care and nursing interventions.
