The aim of the course, in the main, is to provide candidates a critical knowledge in parts of micro and macro economics so that they should be able to make informed decisions in their managerial endeavours.

Course Content

CONTENTS

-Price formation. Comparative and dynamic analyses. The role of sales tax in the production and sale of goods.

-The concept of elasticity and its relevance to managerial decision making.
The basic approach, arc elasticity, point elasticity by using calculus, worked out examples. Estimation of elasticity parameters in various markets.

-Methods of investment appraisal for managers. Benefit/cost ratio, internal rate of return, net present value, payback criterion. Conflict between NPV and IRR, examples, power of the interest rate, handling risk and uncertainty, examples and workshop (rate of return to postgraduate education in Turkey)

-Competition rules in different market structure such as perfect competition, monopolistic competition, monopoly, cartel and oligopoly.

-Undesirable effects of monopoly and oligopoly.

-Fair competition policy and managerial decision making.

-Modern managerial theories and their application in the real world.

-Importance of protection of the environment for modern firms.


-Main macroeconomic parameters and national income determination.

- Business cycle and its impact on managerial decision making.

-Inflation and unemployment.

-Monetary, fiscal and supply side policies and their impact on the business community.
