Course Objectives: | Objectives of this course are to introduce the basic concepts of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) and pharmacodynamics (mechanism of action, toxicity, medication doses), pharmaceutical groups, side effects of medications, medication administration routes, principles of safe medication practices and pharmacology of systemic agents. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1- Explain the basic concepts of pharmacology. 2- Define the mechanisms of action of medications and drug interactions. 3- Apply the principles of safe medication practices. 4- Define the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team in safe administration of medications. |
This course covers the basic concepts of pharmacology, mechanisms of action of medications, distribution, metabolism, excretion of drugs, drug drug groups, drug interactions and adverse effects, drug administration routes, safe medication practices, pharmacology of drugs acting on cardiovascular system, respiratory system, nervous system, gastrointestinal system, hematopoietic system, and chemotherapeutic agents. |
