Course Objectives: This course prepares pre-service teachers to incorporate computer technology and other media into their English language teaching through doing effective analysis, evaluation, selection and production by also familiarizing them with theory, practice and pedagogical applications of a variety of issues related to computer assisted language learning (CALL). This course also aims at teaching prospective English language teachers to effectively select their course materials and when needed adapt them using various adaptation techniques to meet student needs and course objectives.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
By the end of the unit students will be able to:
1. recall principles and techniques of developing and adapting materials as well as evaluating them.
2. demonstrate the abilities to add, change, remove and replace materials in use to make them more relevant to students' needs and levels.
3. demonstrate an appreciation of the need to constantly review and adapt materials to suit students.
4. develop materials to promote students' grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
5. Differentiate different approaches to using technology in the 21st century,
6. Analyze instructional objectives,
7. Define categories of instructional materials,
8. Select appropriate instructional method and medium,
9. Acquire principles of material design,
10. Develop instructional materials (visual, audio, video, Web 2.0 and multimedia) to teach language skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing),
11. Evaluate efficiency of the instructional materials,
12. Define multimodal literacies and acquire visual, audio and cyberlearning literacies
13. Develop a sense for the ethical issues in instructional material design.

Course Content

This course aims at teaching prospective English language teachers to effectively select their course materials and when needed adapt them using various adaptation techniques to meet student needs and course objectives.
