Course Objectives: This course is designed to engage students in the careful reading and critical analysis of English literary texts beginning from the Anglo-Saxon period till early 18th century. Through close reading of selected texts, students will deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers and learn about the socio-historical contexts in which these texts were produced.
