Course Objectives: Objectives of this course are to introduce basic knowledge for Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, national mental health policy, mental health services, mental health and human behaviors, and to enable students to gain knowledge and skills for protection and promotion of mental health, care, treatment and rehabilitation of people with mental disorders.

The students who have succeeded in this course;
The students who have succeeded in this course will be able to;
1. Define the concepts of mental health, protection and promotion of mental health.
2. Define the purpose and philosophy of psychiatric nursing.
3. Assess the needs of patients with mental disorders, develop a care plan, implement interventions tailored according patients needs and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
4. Use therapeutic communication skills with individuals with mental disorders.
5. Take part in practices for protection and promotion and maintenance of mental health, treatment, care and rehabilitation of psychiatric disorders.

Course Content

The course covers the topics about basic concepts and models of psychiatric nursing and mental health, prevention of community mental health disorders and promotion of mental health, communication with individuals with and without mental disorders, therapeutic environment, mood disorders, childhood psychiatric problems, child psychiatry, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, organic mental disorders, rehabilitation in mental disorders, forensic psychiatry and nursing practices in liaison psychiatry.
