Course Objectives: To give students the knowledge and skill to have information about the symptoms/findings of diseases with high morbidity and mortality rates both in our country and in the world, their physiopathology, diagnostic and treatment plans and disease prevention, and to provide patient education.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. Knows the basic concepts and principles regarding the internal medicine.
2. Identifies the patient physical, psychological, social as a whole.
3. Knows the health problems regarding the systems and the internal diseases.
4. Provides care of the internal diseases.
5. Uses the problem solving skill effectively in cases where nursing care is required.

Course Content

Basic concepts in internal medicine nursing, homeostasis and conditions disrupting homeostasis, fluid-electrolyte, acid-base balance and imbalances, cancer, cancer treatments, care for the cancer patient, anemia-leukemia, hemorrhage disorders, lymphomas, care for the blood diseases, rhythm and transmission disorders, coronary artery diseases, structural infectious and inflammatory heart diseases, heart failure, vascular diseases and peripheral circulation disorders, hypertension, care for the heart diseases, upper respiratory system infections, atelectasis-pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia, CAPD, asthma, care for the respiratory system diseases, upper urinary system infections, glomerular diseases, renal failure, dialysis, care for the renal diseases, immune system deficiencies, AIDS, excessive sensitivity reactions and allergic diseases, care for the immune system diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, gout, care for the joint and connective tissue diseases, gastritis, ulcer, colitis, hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver failure, care for the digestive system diseases, changes in level of consciousness, Cerebrovascular Diseases (CVD), Increased Intracranial Pressure Syndrome (IIPS), epilepsy, myasthenia gravis, Parkinson’s disease, care for nervous system diseases, diabetes, hypo/hyperthyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome, care for the endocrine system diseases.
