Course Objectives: This course examines the evolving structure of cities and the way that cities, suburbs, and metropolitan areas can be designed and developed. Istanbul and other Turkish cities are studied to see how physical, social, political and economic forces interact to shape and reshape cities over time.

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Students who are taking this course will have a thorough understanding of the following concepts:
Methodologies, principles and techniques of urban design; politics and strategies of urban design and their reflection on the urban form and built environment/models and methods of design; a select group of case studies from Turkey illustrating on specific urban design projects.
