Course Objectives: This course aims to provide an understanding of architectural research methodologies for research activities pertaining to the field of design, theory, history and criticism in architecture. The seminar addresses intellectual issues that shape these disciplines and stresses the craft of tailoring and defending a scholarly argument. The students will gain the ability to benefit from interdisciplinary studies and apply the concepts and methods of different disciplines to develop an innovative method for architectural research.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. recognizes the inter-disciplinary nature of research methods in the field of architecture and design

2. develops the craft of tailoring and defending a scholarly argument

3. recognizes the significance of searching and proposing unique and field specific reserach methods

4. identifies the prospective processes of conducting a research and writing a thesis

5. explore the ethical responsibilities of research making

Course Content

Within the scope of this course, the interdisiciplinary nature of research methods, ethic responsibilities of research making and architectural research methods will be investigated. In the context of the (architectural) research methods discussed in the class, students are asked to reasses and discuss their own research design.
