Course Objectives: | This course aims to provide a general historical perspective of the architectural field in Turkey starting with the transitional period from late Ottoman Empire to the Republican era. Accordingly, the evaluation, comparison and discussion of not specific buildings and architects but a wider view of the context-bound processes of architectural production in a chronological order, will be the main target of this course. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1.Identify main course of the architectural production in Turkey in the last century and its evolution as a professional discipline. 2.Grasp the multiplicity of its actors, problems and processes. 3.Recognize the processes of urbanization in Turkey throughout the twentieth century. 4.Compare and relate different conditions of architectural productions in different periods of time. 5.Get familiar with the related literature of architecture and urbanization in Turkey. |
This course basically aims to bring forth the key issues related with the theoretical and the actual productions in the architectural field of Turkey, with a critical perspective. Accordingly, in this course a wide range of problems will be interrogated and discussed in a chronological yet thematic order, most of which also intersect and interact with the actual dynamics of society, politics, economy and culture both in national and global level. |
