Course Objectives: Courses objective is to make students have the fundamental knowledges and discussing ability about the increasingly important subject ¨data protection¨.

- express the basic concepts of data protection law;
- recognize the significiant impact of surveillance technologies both in social and legal context
- develop legal argumentation in cases related to the personal data protection
- understand the importance of basic principles of data protection law
- define legal issues related to surveillance society

Course Content

This course is adresses wide range of legal problems related to personal data protection. In this context, the course deals with the relationship between data protection, surveillance and information society; the development of data protection law and the emergence of regulation in Turkey; privacy and surveillance in the age of Internet; personal data protection in telecommunication sector; medical data protection and also new legal and social problems arising by social networking sites.
