Course Objectives: Aim of study to teach students map and compass usage for safety navigation at sea.

3. Top use navigational aids which are magnetic and gyro compasses

Course Content

Surveying, navigation equipments and usage, map usage, magnetic compass, gyro compass, applications.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Station Specification Procedures, Course Instrument and Use. According to geographic coordinate. Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
2) The use of map. One sea of the map structure, map inscription reading. Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
3) MAP CATALOGUE - Turkish Marine Map Catalogue - USA Marine Map Catalogue - Admiralty Marine Map Catalogue Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
4) Map Correction - Types - Making shapes - Anouncement system for sailors Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
5) Magntic Compas - Magnetic compas's the importance of the present. - Genereal knowledge about orientation instruments. - Magnetic compas's working principle. - The concept of magnetism and earth magnetism's explemation. - Techical intrudaction about magnetics. - Magnetic compas types which use in the ship. - İnstruments, which use conjuction with compas, introduction. Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
6) Magnetic Compas - Compas control and necessity of correction. - Changeing and causing in the vessel's on the magnetic field. - Compas correction principles, compas correction methods. - Compas repair principles. Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
7) CAYRO Compas - Atalet principle and in the cayro compas application. - Cayro compas's reliability. - Latitude and speed correction in the cayro compas. - Cayro compas's control. Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
8) Vessel Reporting Systems - Vessel reporting systems's purpose. - National and International regulation about with vessel reporting system. - Reporting Systems which use in the Turkish Bosphoruses Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
9) Reporting Systems (Continuation) - Reporting Systems who avaiable in the word sea's and presentation of applications Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
10) Applications of Map. - Vessel of position locating methods. Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
11) Applications of Map - Course and speed determine above in the map, determine effect of currents and wind and correspondigly correction doing. Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
12) Applications of Map - Navigation Planning Students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthoming subjects one week before.
