Course Content

Description and Classification of Ships , tonnages of a ship, Structure and main parts of the ship. Types , structures and usage of lines/ ropes . Knots and splicing
Deck machinery and anchorage system. Motor and sail vessels equipments, vessel maintenance.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Description and Classification of Ships students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
2) Shipping terms, basic descriptions about vessels students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
3) Tonnage gauges, (Gross tonnage, net tonnage, deadweight tonnage, deplacement tonnage, empty deplacement students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
4) Structure and main parts of the ship students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
5) Decks, Holds and hatches, Engine room, Pipes and service tanks students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
6) Cofferdams and pipe ways, Stores and paint store, Bridge, Accommodations, Rudder room students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
7) Keel, Frames, bulkheads, sections, shell plating, fire and watertight doors/hatches, portholes, wind sails/air intakes etc. - Rigging of ladders and gangways students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
8) Lines/ ropes, knots and splicing. students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
9) Common knots and their functions, Maneuvering lines and line commands . Care, use and storage of ropes and wires students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
10) Rope work application students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
11) Engine and sail yacht equipments students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
12) Windlass and anchorage system, chain, anchor and chain locker, Types and parts of anchors and their usage students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
13) Structure and usage of chains, working and breaking load of a chain, Marking of anchor cable students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
14) Motor and Sail Yacht rigging and equipments students will be directed to do some preparation about the forthcoming subjects one week before.
