Basic information

Language of instruction: English
Type of course: Must Course
Course Level: Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle)
Mode of Delivery: Face to face
Course Coordinator : Dr. Öğr. Üyesi İPEK TORUN
Recommended Optional Program Components: None
Course Objectives: The course focuses on teaching the necessary knowledge of basic movement and principles to make an animation film. Besides providing information about the techniques of animation, the course also provides the necessary technical information to be published in the movie medium. At the same time the students are expected to make storyboard and synchronization works.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Recognize the essentials of animation
2) Make connections between the two-dimensional graphic members and time-based media
3) Recognize the relations between time and audience
4) Implement a concept oriented design for time-based media
5) Provide the rhythm of comprehension and skills for time-based media
6) Analysis of movement with “line” and gain skills to
synthesize this analysis
7) Gain the ability to visualize movement with an aesthetic design and technique, while considering the effects of movement on the viewer
8) Gain the ability to synchronize visual and sound
9) Gain the creative skills to use visual material to create a rich story
10) Gain the ability to think comparatively, analyse, practice and conclude in time-based design

Course Content

The course content includes the basic exercises of animation such as ball bouncing, pendulum, walking, running, jumping, pushing and pulling, along with the explanation of 12 principles of animation with examples. In addition, the stages related to the design and application process of animation such as script writing, storyboarding, and animatics are also included.
