Course Objectives: • provide students with the language tools necessary to communicate both orally and in writing at an elementary level in Russian
• develop students’ confidence and ability to communicate in a new language and maintain their interest by providing varied, engaging and interactive activities
• get students to experience the Russian culture through songs, and selected episodes from films and cartoons
• increase students’ awareness of the global workplace through the introduction of a new culture

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
o students will be able to master phonetics (pronounce sound patterns)
o students should be able to write in the Russian script
o students will be able to use essential linguistic features of Russian such as gender and number of nouns and adjectives, the present tense and the prepositional case of nouns
o students will be able to talk or write about topics related to home, family, friends, city, food, shopping or routine, using appropriate vocabulary
o students will be able to use key phonological aspects

Course Content

Topics will take into account the requirements of the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL Elementary level) for beginners in Russian and also the recommendations and guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This is reflected in the course teaching material, Road to Russia I. Various types of authentic materials will be used along with the main textbook to achieve the course aims. Cultural material and activities will expose students to various aspects of Russian life as well as motivate them and facilitate their progress in learning the language.

2) Urok 2: 1. Phonetics: • consonants (к, г, х, с, з, р); • devocalization of consonants; • reading rules of vowels [а] [о] in stressed and unstressed positions; • tone construction II; • comparison of tone constructions I, II and III. 2. Grammar: • parts of speech; • gender of nouns; • animate and inanimate nouns; • interrogative sentences with a question word Кто (Кто это?). Grammar: • personal pronouns; • possessive pronoun (мой, моя, моё); • structure of simple sentence; • construction with genitive case (центр города); • compound sentences with conjunctions И, А.
