Course Objectives: This course provides a general introduction to International Relations (IR) studies. It covers the conceptual tools, historical development and basic theoretical approaches of IR. Central concepts such as power, security, sovereignty, conflict, war, peace, cooperation, globalization, etc. are deeply examined. Current international issues are explored and discussed within the general framework of key theoretical approaches and empirical knowledge based on relevant case studies.

1. Explain the basic concepts, historical development and theoretical approaches related to IR;
2. Apply the analytical tools of IR as a discipline to a range of phenomena in IR;
3. Develop critical and rigorous thinking on IR related issues;
4. Evaluate the emergence of war and peace issues in IR in the context of cause-effect relationship;
5. Analyse the dynamics and problems of globalization.

The emergence and development of the international system; concepts and theoretical approaches of IR; issues of war and peace; changing actors and institutions; globalization and current issues.
