Course Objectives: | The main objective of the course is to provide the students with the concept and subjects of intellectual property rights. The protection of copyrights, patents, trademarks and industrial design rights will be looked at. Their place and use will be elaborated based on the relevant cases. A focus will be given to the international agreements on this issue as an effort of harmonization. The principle of free movement with IPRs will be elaborated together with limitations to these exceptional rights. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; I. Define which rights are protected under the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) of the EU. II. Assess trademarks, patents, industrial design rights and copyrights in the relevant course material. III. Differentiate between trademark, patent and industrial design rights. IV. Compare the rules of IPRs with the Competition Policy rules and assess the restrictive aspects of the latter. V. Analyze the relationship of IPRs with the rules of Free Movement of Goods, Services, Persons and Capital of the Common Market. VI. Assess the place of EU IPR regulations and directors with the international treaties on IPR. VII. Define the place of IPR rules in the block exemption regulations of the EU. VIII. Compare and contrast EU IPR rules with the rules of the WTO. |
