Course Objectives: This course studies the sociological dimension in the production of Turkish literature. It aims to equip students with analytical skills to understand the “cause and effect” relations of social dynamics that cause sociological transformation. Building on products of Turkish literature it enables students to understand sociological dynamics in Turkey. This course will include the issue of whether literature reflects society, the use of literature in establishing collective identities, and reading a social practice.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Students who succeed in this course will be able to:

1)Analyze the events of the society by an analytical method by the study of the literary works.
2)Examine turmoils of sociological changes through the literal works
3)Categorize, Turkish literature starting from the Tanzimat era comparatively using the Message-Index of Narratives method from a sociological perspective.
4)Argue explicitly over the sociological structures of societies and the cause and effect patterns of social relations on a scientific basis
5)Solve the oral literature Works applying “Message-Index” and “Motive-Index” methods.
6)Locate the responses of the sociological events discussed in the literal works in real life.
7)Apply analysis of work to these responses in real life.

Course Content

This course examines turmoils of sociological changes through the literary products. It analyses comparatively, Turkish literature starting from the Tanzimat era using the "Message-Index of Narratives" method from a sociological perspective. It thus explicitly covers sociological structures of societies and the 'cause-and-effect' patterns of social relations on a scientific basis.
