Course Objectives: Course is focused on the practical use of computers and information technologies to acquire, manage, and use information that will be vital to the personal and professional requirements. For personal and common professional requirements, course will handle the computer literacy subjects, mainly covering the use of office productivity tools.
For the professional requirements in the field of communication, students will be introduced with widely used visual communication design software.

2) Students will be able to sense Visual Communication Design Concepts.
3) Students will be able to get information about basic Visual Communication Design products.
4) Students will be able to get information about Visual Communication Design’s basic technical concepts and phrases.
5) Students will be able to use Adobe Illustrator vectorel drawing software
6) Students will be able to use Adobe Photoshop image processing software.

Course Content

In this course; visual communication design concepts and products of visual design will be mentioned in concomitant to technologies.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Basic computer hardware and software concepts. Operating system and applications. Definition of data in terms of binary/digital. Functions of operating systems. File System Management. Practice: File Management Pretest.
2) Introduction to graphic formats and file types. Differences between vector and bitmapped graphics. Concepts and terminology related to computer graphics. Practice: Using Adobe Illustrator Menus & Toolbox: Drawing tools, objects and object attributes. (Drawing basic geometric shapes with Illustrator)
3) Visual Communication and Visual Communication Design. Practice: Adobe Illustrator for freeform drawing: (Creating a composition with geometric objects and a silhouette)
4) Major Visual Communication Design products. Practice: Drawing and coloring with Illustrator: (Drawing a character from TV Show Southpark)
5) Visual Communication Design production technologies Practice: Drawing and coloring with Illustrator: (Drawing a character from TV Show Southpark)
6) Major technical concepts for Visual Communication Design Products. Practice: Using text and graphics to create a poster composition: (Save the World-Concept poster work)
7) Using text and image and masking function on Illustrator: (Create a CD Cover on Illustrator)

9) Choosing correct document type and resolution, different image formats, image processing concept. Practice: Using Adobe Photoshop: Interface and tools: Cropping tools, text tool and Layer Concept on Photoshop (Photo Manipulation: Bahçeşehir University Poster)
10) Colour models: HSL Model, additive and subtractive colour models, digitalizing colours Practice: Using Adobe Photoshop: Tools and commands. Layer Style and Layer Mode functions. (Photo Manipulation: In the Space Poster)
11) Using Adobe Photoshop: Commands and effects. Color Correction on Photoshop. (Creating a visual composition, using ‘posterize’ effect on photos)
12) Using Adobe Photoshop: Layer Masking and color blending. (Recoloring a black and white photo)
13) What is 3D? 3D applications on Computer graphics. Practice: Using Adobe Photoshop: 3D Typography, Smart Object and Action functions (Creating a 3D Typography on Photoshop)
