Course Objectives: Course is focused on the practical use of computer technologies in the field of visual communication design. Students will acquire skills on using computer for visual design purposes through understanding the major functions of related applications and applying the functions for creating visual communication design products.
The visual design communication concepts and products of visual design will be mentioned concomitant to technologies, to give students a broader understanding of the field out of the limitations of the technologies.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) will develop skills in using computer tools to create visual design artifacts.
2) Students will familiarize the field and visual communication design products
3) Students will enhance their skills on use of computer for visual design purposes.
4) Technical concepts and terminology related to the production of visual design artifacts will also be given.

Course Content

Course contains visual projects to be developed with vectoral drawing tools, photo manipulation tools, video editing tools, animation tools, interactive media design tools besides the technical concepts and terminology related to production of digital visual material.

1) Week 1: A review of time based products in VCD and screen medium Project I: Creating an illustration based on the “hierarchy concept” with vector graphics application Aligning, arranging objects, pathfinding objects (union, punch etc.),pen and brush tools
2) Animation with Keyframes Project II: Vector Animation based on keyframes
3) Editing the manual drawings with photo manipulation tools :Resizing, color enhancements, recoloring, batch processing Resolution and color depth Project III: Frame animation
4) Animation with frames Using video editing tools for animating a sequence of bitmap images
5) Sound editing Using sound functions of video editing tools
6) Illustration revisited: Abstracting real world photos for creating vector illustrations Project V: Drawing Butterflies Midterm Exam
