Recommended Optional Program Components: 1.Be able to analyze and understand the various social structures, institutions, and systems that shape human behavior and interactions. 2.To acquire research skills to design and conduct sociological research, including collecting and analyzing data using both quantitative and qualitative methods. 3.Gain understanding of major sociological theories and perspectives, enabling them to interpret and explain social phenomena 4.To be skilled in critical thinking, able to analyze complex social issues, evaluate evidence, and form well-reasoned arguments 5. To understand and apply ethical principles in sociological research and practice, considering the potential impact of their work on individuals and communities. 6.Be proficient in written and oral communication, capable of presenting their ideas and research findings to both academic and public audiences. 7.To learn and understand theories related to urban and rural sociology and demography; and political sociology, sociology of gender, sociology of body, sociology of art, visual sociology, sociology of work, sociology of religion, sociology of knowledge and sociology of crime. 8.To have a basic knowledge of other disciplines (including psychology, history, political science, communication studies and literature) that can contribute to sociology and to be able to make use of this knowledge in analyzing sociological processes 9. Be equipped to identify social injustices, inequalities, and challenges, including climate change, disasters and digitalization. 10.Be culturally sensitive and have a strong awareness of diverse cultures, social norms, and values, allowing them to navigate global and multicultural environments 11. Be able to apply their sociological knowledge and skills to real-world situations, such as policy analysis, community development, and social service provision. 12. Develop collaborative skills, as sociology often involves working with diverse groups of people to address complex social issues.
Course Objectives: In this course, the historical development of women and gender studies, basic issues and problems, theoretical and methodological approaches, basic and advanced debates will be covered. We aim to develop a gender-sensitive perspective as based on the critical knowledge of the field.

The students who have succeeded in this course;
At the end of the course, you will be able to:

1. To have comprehensive knowledge about the development of women and gender studies in the world and in Turkey
2. Using the knowledge of the field at an analytical and critical level using basic conceptual tools
3. Critically problematizing current issues and problematics from a gender sensitive perspective
4. Using the ability to ask research questions, design and conduct research from the perspective of women and gender studies

Course Content

The conceptual, methodological, and theoretical tools of the field of Gender and Women’s Studies will be introduced, and the main subject areas will be addressed from a critical perspective.
