Course Objectives: This course will offer skill development in the use of software to develop storyboards and Stop Motion animation including creating, importing and sequencing media elements to create multi-media presentations. Emphasis will be on conceptualization, creativity, and visual aesthetics. This course takes the students through various aspects of Stop Motion animation using a variety of materials and techniques. Developing concepts, storyboarding and production of several stop motion animations will be accomplished.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
· Identify the 12 principles of animation 

· Calculate and apply appropriate frame rates 

· Manipulate animation production equipment 

· Create accurate and aesthetically appealing stop motion animation 

· Describe characteristics of well-designed and executed animation 

· Relate some knowledge of the history of animation 

· Assess and critique past and current animation trends 

· Demonstrate progress in basic sculpting, puppet making and animation skills 

· Critically analyze your creative work and the work of others 


Course Content

Stop Motion Animation is an intermediate course for Cut-Out, Clay and Puppet Animation. This course provides students the fundamental skills to produce traditional style animation as well as puppet animation and the knowledge of the principles of animation to be built upon in subsequent courses leading up to the Portfolio course

* You will also need to purchase some modeling clay (plasticine non-hardening) and some plastic or wooden sculpting tools from a local hobby store. The recommended brand of clay is Van Aken Claytoon Modeling Clay which might be hard to find in currents situation then FIMO.
