Course Objectives: Promote the use of information technology. Increase computer literacy. To gain experience in office programs and internet usage.

To explain the basic concepts of Information Technologies and information-processing thinking
To explain the concepts and approaches of problem solving
To know the main components of computer systems (computer operation logic, hardware and software concepts, operating systems, file management)
To use the Microsoft Office Word the word processor program effectively
To use the Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet program effectively
To use the Microsoft Office PowerPoint the presentation preparation program effectively
To use the Microsoft Office Publisher the publishing program effectively
To use the Microsoft Office Access Desktop the database program effectively
To explain the basic concepts of web design
To explain the usage of the Internet as an educational tool
To know precautions for computer and internet security
To know the internet ethics
To know the effects of computer and internet on children/teenagers

Course Content

Information technologies and computational thinking; problem solving concepts and approaches; algorithm and flow charts; computer systems; basic concepts about software and hardware; bases of operating systems, current operating systems; file management; utilities (third party software); word processing programs; calculation / table / graphics programs; presentation programs; desktop publishing; database management systems; Web designing; internet use in education; communication and collaboration technologies; safe internet use; information ethics and copyrights; the effects of computer and internet on children / youth.
