Course Objectives: This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of visual storytelling and how story relates to the cinematic world. Topics include film terminology, mental visualization, basic structure of a story arc, character background, archetypes and oral traditions, and film form. Starting from story, we will investigate, research and think about different elements of film form, and aim to prepare a pre production pitching document incapsulating all these elements.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Learn basic concepts and terminalogy of visual narrative storytelling.
2) Analyze different storytelling methods.
3) Learning story arc, character development and conflict concepts.
4) Develop knowledge about story and character via analysing mythology, psychology, folk stories, comic books and films.
5) Developping a narrative story reel using the knowledge acquired through analysing layout, composition, pacing, use of colour and light and audio.
