Course Objectives: The aim of the course is comprehend the difference between looking and seeing by examining three-dimensional and two-dimensional object with putting forward the three basic drawing methods such as perspective- proportion- light and shadow. Other objectives of the course are to teach how to sketch and provide a basic infrastructure for drawing practice. In order to do this the course guides the students to discover their own abilities and underlines drawing and sketching are cognitive skills that can be learned and improved. Also, the development of student’s perception and knowledge about the object’s movement by drawing sequentially from different angles and perspectives is aimed.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. To grasp the difference between looking and seeing
2. To get used to the hand practices with the use of pen and paper and other drawing materials
3. To build the ability to create balance between the material drawn on paper
4. Gaining daily drawing routines
5. Revealing an idea with drawing
6. Creating and improving a visual memory by drawing the human body through out the workshops

Course Content

Course consists of 3 parts: Learning the purpose oriented expression capacity of drawing materials such as pencil and paper and comprehending and applying the basic principles of proportion- perspective, light-shadow. Obtaining an effect of motion by sequentially drawing an object or living creature from different angles. Building a composition in order to express an idea by trying to create a meaning relations between linear compositions, objects or living creatures as models.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) SQUARE, PARALLELOGRAM and CUBE Cube drawing sarting from square and parallelogram. Drawing, toning and volumizing cube-shaped objects in nature and around us with a pencil.
2) RECTANGLE and RECTANGULAR PRISM Drawing a rectangular prism starting from a rectangular. Drawing, shading and volumizing rectangular prism objects in nature and around us with a pencil.
3) CIRCLE and SPHERE Drawing a sphere starting from the circle. Pencil drawing, shading and volumizing of spherical objects in nature.
4) ELLIPSE and CYLINDER Drawing cylinders based on ellipses and rectangles. Drawing and detailing the tone and volume of cylindrical objects in nature with pencil.
5) OVAL Three dimensional oval drawing from the two dimensional oval.Drawing, shading and giving volume of oval shaped three dimensional objects in nature.
6) ELLIPSE and OVAL Starting from ellipsoid and oval objects and arriving ellipsoid and three dimensional oval shapes in nature and around us .Giving volume to them by shading them with a pencil.
7) Midterm Week
8) TRIANGLE and TRIANGULAR PRISM Different types of triangles.Drawing a triangular prism from triangles and parallelograms. Pencil drawing of triangular prism shaped objects in nature, and giving them volume by shading.
9) CONE Arriving cone form starting from triangle and circle. Pencil drawing, and shading of conical objects in nature. Also giving volume of them.
10) HUMAN MOTIONS Drawings of two boxers in various positions, based on the geometric shapes studied to this day.
11) PORTRAIT Portrait studies based on geometric forms.
12) SPACE and PERSPECTIVE Drawing the space by looking from a corner of the student's own room, taking into account the perspective, proportion and axis of the view.
13) SPACE Drawing of the street where the student's house is located.
14) Completion exercises and answers to questions.
