| Course Objectives: | The aims of the Forensic Medicine Clerkship are to provide information about the forensic medicine procedures, the importance of multidisciplinary approach in forensic medicine practices, death and post-mortem changes, the characteristics and types of wounds and medicolegal evaluation of wounds, medicolegal autopsies, medical malpractices, and physicians’ legal responsibilities, to prepare students for the forensic case evaluation procedure they may encounter throughout their professional life. |

The students who have succeeded in this course; 1. Define the field of forensic sciences and forensic medicine, explain its scope and history. 2. Define medical malpractice and to be protected from it. 3. Describe means and types of death, early and late postmortem changes. 4. Define what does asphyxia mean, types of asphyxia. 5. Define and classify the wounds, diagnose different types of wounds. 6. Define scene investigation and death examination and their procedures . 7. Conduct visually interpreting lesions in forensic cases. 8. Distinguish and manage forensic cases. 9. Define aims of autopsy, procedure of autopsy and autopsy types. 10. Describe the types of poisoning and findings of autopsy. 11. Describe meaning of violence against women, child, elder and other vulnerable groups and their clinical findings. 12. Describe forensic psychiatric principles 13. Describe the clinical symptoms of alcohol and drug use. 14. Define approaching to a forensic case. 15. Define the consultations that should be asked in judicial cases. 16. List the tests to be demanded in judicial cases. 17. Describe procedures to be performed in cases of sexual assault. 18. Take a medical history. 19. Conduct forensic examination and reporting process. 20. Prepare medicolegal reports. 21. Maintain empathy and effective communication. 22. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and health care professionals. 23. Maintain confidentiality of case information. 24. Maintain positive attitude and good work ethic. 25. Demonstrate respect, compassion, integrity, and responsiveness to the needs of family members. |
