Course Objectives: | The course will introduce the students to the biology of microorganisms with emphasis on prokaryotes. It covers structure, metabolism, genetics, growth and pathogenicity of bacteria. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1. Define basic principles of microbiology 2. Make an introduction to microbial world 3. Compare cellular structure and function in bacteria and archae 4. Recognize nutrition and culture of microorganisms 5. Discuss microbial growth 6. Define molecular biology of bacteria 7. Define regulation of gene expression 8. Identify viruses and virology 9. Compare genetics of bacteria and archae 10. Define genetics of lower eukaryotic microbes 11. Recognize microbial genomics |
Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms at the unicellular, multicellular or acellular level. The course content includes understanding the basics of disciplines such as virology, mycology, parasitology and bacteriology. This course will be based on lectures, readings and discussions. |
