| Course Objectives: | The first objective of the course is to improve students' reading skills in Ottoman printed texts and their command of Ottoman legal terminology. The second aim of the course is to teach students how to identify and analyze the meaning of documents in their historical context as well as their form and content. In this way, students will gain academic knowledge about diplomatics (documentology) and the methods of analyzing documents in context. The third aim of the course is to encourage a rethinking of Ottoman in the digital age. To this end, artificial intelligence-assisted translation tools will be introduced in the first half of the semester. |

The students who have succeeded in this course; At the end of this course, students will be able to; 1. Will be able to read and analyze printed Ottoman texts published in the 19th and early 20th centuries within the framework of diplomatic discipline and by gaining the competence to analyze the historical context of the sources. 2. Will have knowledge about the legal norms and practices of Ottoman waqf law transferred from the early modern period to the modern period. 3. By learning the basic principles of artificial intelligence assisted translation tools, they will gain knowledge to become Ottoman experts who can contribute to the development of these tools. 4. They will learn to use CATMA (Computer Assisted Text Markup and Analysis) software and will be able to analyze an Ottoman text with this tool. |
| To read and analyze Ottoman printed sources, to analyze text using CATMA software. The teaching methods of the course are classical learning methods as well as technology assisted learning. |
