Course Objectives: Students will have in-depth knowledge of the social history of the Ottoman Empire in areas such as settlement, family, social relations, gender and social roles, entertainment, etc. The aim of this course is to comprehend the levels of determining the social and economic processes of the Ottoman central bureaucratic state order and to analyze the social structure with the basic principles of Ottoman economic thought.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to;
1. will be able to define the concepts related to the course.
2. will have in-depth knowledge of the social history of the Ottoman Empire in areas such as settlement, family, social relations, gender and social roles, entertainment, etc.
3. will have knowledge about the history of the science of history from its emergence to the present day and various schools of historiography.

Course Content

Social and economic history of the Ottoman Empire in the Classical Period.

The learning methods of the course are classical learning methods such as lecture and problem solving.

7) Midterm Exam
8) Entertainment and spending time; the emergence of the coffeehouse and tavern
9) Religious life; Sufism and its role in social life
10) Production, trades and provision of daily needs
11) Order and social boundaries
12) Representation and impact of ethnic and religious differences in the social sphere
13) Relations between state officials and ordinary citizens
14) Case Study - Social Life in Court Records
