Course Objectives: To teach cell and its building blocks, organelles, the relationship between the cells, the structure and function of cytoplasmic membrane, pumps, stem cell, cell death and pathologies, bioinformatics, molecular motors, signal transduction mechanisms, gene expression and replication and epigenetics.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
At the end of this block, the students will be able to explain the structure and functions of the cell, the intercellular interactions, cellular division, stem cell and important embryonic events of the first 3 weeks of intrauterine life. The students will give the specifics for all characteristics of DNA, including pathologies.

Course Content

This block gives the information of different tissue types of human, the properties of the cells forming these tissues, gametogenesis and the period of first 3 weeks of the embiyo. Besides, cytoplasmic organelles being functional structures of the cell are explained. Biologic macromolecules, physical and functional structure of cytoplasmic membrane, transport mechanisms, metabolic pathways in cell and cellular signalization. Also, the block includes DNA replication process and cellular division. The block explains the begining of life, genetic inheritance, molecular basis of genetic diseases, the principles of gene therapy. This block gives an introduction to stem cell and stem cell therapy.

3) Prokaryotic structure, extraembryonic structures, genomic replication, ion permeability, gene expression, signal transduction mechanisms, stem cell, molecular methods -
4) Epigenetics, DNA damage and repair mechanisms, lower extremity joints, 3-D applications in drug design, Stem cell functions, genetic irregularities in preimplementation, clinical consequences of cell death -
5) Signal molecules and their receptors, clinical pathologies of cell cycle, signal transduction mechanisms, intercellular signalization, multiple sequence alignment, induction mechanisms in the embyo, homology modeling and protein engeneering. Course exam. -
