Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to enable students to understand the genetic counseling process, basic genetic concepts, and the impact of hereditary diseases on individuals, families, and society. As future family counselors, students are expected to develop a holistic approach to genetic counseling, considering its ethical, psychological, and social dimensions.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Defines basic genetic concepts.

Explains inheritance patterns and modes of transmission of genetic diseases.

Describes the goals and scope of genetic counseling.

Outlines the steps of the genetic counseling process.

Develops skills in constructing a family pedigree (genogram).

Identifies types of genetic tests and interprets the results.

Analyzes the psychosocial effects of genetic diseases on families.

Applies effective communication skills in the genetic counseling process.

Acts in accordance with ethical principles in genetic counseling.

Evaluates the impact of cultural diversity on the counseling process.

Explains principles of confidentiality and privacy related to genetic information.
