Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide Master's students with knowledge about health psychology. The aim of the course is to enable students to understand basic information about physical and mental health, to manage health-related counselling processes effectively, to provide support for individuals and families on chronic diseases, psychosocial health, health behaviours and coping with illness. It is aimed that the family counsellor cooperates with other professionals in the health system and handles the clients with a holistic approach.

Explain the theoretical foundations of health counselling.

Evaluates the individual according to the biopsychosocial health model.

Analyses the effects of chronic diseases on the family.

Recognise psychosomatic symptoms and develop appropriate counselling strategies.

Evaluates health-related risky behaviours (substance use, unhealthy diet, etc.).

Demonstrates effective counselling skills in stress, trauma and crisis situations.

Interpret the effects of health literacy level on the counselling process.

Defines ways of cooperation with the health system, institutions and health professionals.

Applies supportive counselling approaches in the disease process in the family.

Acts in accordance with ethical principles in health counselling.

Evaluates the effects of cultural differences on health perception and counselling process.
