Course Objectives: Within the scope of family counseling course, concepts such as family concept, family cycle, healthy and unhealthy communication within the family, couple relationships, family attitudes and behaviors towards traumatic issues such as divorce-separation will be discussed.
The aim of this course is to teach the theoretical foundations of family counselling, basic concepts of family structure and functioning, healthy and unhealthy family dynamics, couple relationships, how to support the family in the counselling process in divorce and traumatic life events. In addition, it is aimed that students learn the techniques and methods used in the family counselling process and develop case-based assessment skills.

Learning Outcomes

Explains the definition and basic principles of le counselling.

Compares family systems theory and other family theories.

Defines and interprets the phases of the family life cycle.

Analyses healthy and unhealthy family functioning patterns.

Evaluates the forms of communication within the family.

Handles the problems in couple relationships in the context of counselling.

Explains the effects of traumatic processes such as divorce and separation on family members.

Develops the ability to provide psychological support to the family in times of crisis.

Creates intervention plans in accordance with ethical principles in family counselling.
